November 16, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudanese Commission of Refugees (SCR) said 400 Ethiopian refugees have arrived in the eastern state of Gedaref following ethnic clashes between Amhara and Tigray.

Sudan’s commissioner of refugees Hamad al-Gizouli said the Ethiopian refugees have entered Sudan through Gallabat and Metemma border crossing points between the two countries.

August 13, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The Ethiopian rebel Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) Sunday declared a unilateral ceasefire pointing to the call for peace by the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The ONLF “declares Unilateral ceasefire from today – 12:00 pm, August 12, 2018, that and will cease all military and security operations directed against the Ethiopian Security Apparatus in the Somali territory (Ogaden), until a negotiated comprehensive cessation of hostilities is reached with the Ethiopian government,” says the rebel group.

July 16, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s Higher Committee to Combat Human Trafficking said it would develop a national anti-trafficking strategy as well as activating existing laws to counter the phenomenon in accordance with the established international standards.

In a meeting chaired by Vice-President Hassabo Mohamed Abdel-Rahman on Sunday, the committee discussed legal frameworks to combat human trafficking besides humanitarian and social effects of the phenomenon.

April 28, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Member of the government delegation to the Two Areas talks Abdel-Rahman Abu Median said large numbers of Sudanese refugees have returned to the Blue Nile from Ethiopia.

Blue Nile State and neighbouring South Kordofan state have been the scene of violent conflict between the SPLM-N and the Sudanese army since 2011.

Abu Median disclosed refugees have voluntarily returned to their original areas in Kurmuk, Gisan and Wad Al-Mahi due to the stable security situation in the state.

April 20, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - A government official at the Blue Nile State on Friday said thousands of refugees have recently returned to the state from South Sudan and Ethiopia.

Blue Nile State and neighbouring South Kordofan state have been the scene of violent conflict between the SPLM-N and the Sudanese army since 2011.

The commissioner of Bau county of the Blue Nile State Abdel-Ghani Digais said his county is witnessing the voluntary return of displaced persons as well as refugees from Ethiopia and South Sudan.

September 13, 2017 (ADDIS ABABA) – Renewed fighting between armed factions from Ethiopia’s Oromia and Somali regional states has forced hundreds of civilians to flee their homes.

The fighting which erupted on Tuesday has displaced at least 600 people from both regions.

Minister of Government Communication Affairs Office (GCAO), Negeri Lencho, told the state affiliated, Fana Broadcasting Corporation, that the clashes which occurred while the government has been resolving the dispute caused loss of life and property damage.

August 21, 2017 (GAMBELLA) - The Governor of the Gambela region, Gatluak Tut Khot has urged South Sudanese refugees to return to Pagak, a former rebel stronghold within South Sudan’s Mawut state.

Gatluak, on Saturday, met several South Sudanese Nuer refugees in Kuergeng, an Ethiopian town located about 5 kilometers from Pagak town.

The refugees, South Sudan’s Consul in Gambella noted in a statement, vowed to return home since Maiwut was now liberated.

January 25, 2017 (KHARTOUM) - The Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) Tuesday has called for a new political process and requested the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution committing the Sudanese parties to the implementation of the international humanitarian law.

Yasir Aram made his call during a closed informal meeting through a video conference with the UN Security Council to explain the Movement’s position on the humanitarian and peace talks with the Sudanese government.

June 6, 2016 (ADDIS ABABA) - Ethiopian officials on Monday said that most of the Ethiopian Nuer children kidnapped by a South Sudan’s Murle militia group have been rescued and have returned home safely.

On April 15, 2016, thousands of members of a South Sudan’s militia group armed with machine guns, crossed into Ethiopia raided 13 villages in Nuer and Anyuak zones of Ethiopia’s Gambela region where they killed over 200 people and snatched over 100 children.

May 16, 2016 (ADDIS ABABA) – Ethiopian officials on Monday said dozens of children who were kidnapped by a South Sudanese militia group have been recovered and safely returned home following negotiations with the abductors.

The regional state and military officials of the Ethiopian Defense Force are receiving the children upon arrival at Gambella region bordering South Sudan.

April 18, 2016 (ADDIS ABABA) – Ethiopia said it prepares to launch military offensive against South Sudan’s armed Murle militia forces who this week massacred hundreds of its citizens across the border.

Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, on Monday in a televised statement on the Ethiopian TV vowed that his forces would take punitive military action following the killing of over 200 people.

January 29, 2016 (GAMBELLA) – Deadly clashes occurred on Thursday and continued on Friday in the Ethiopian region of Gambella between the two majority communities of Nuer and Anyuak in the area.

Multiple sources told Sudan Tribune that dozens of people have been killed on both sides and many more wounded when members of Nuer and Anyuak, the two ethnic groups which constitute the first and second largest, respectively, in Gambella region, clashed in the outskirts regional capital, Gambella, and spread to the center of the town.

January 17, 2016 (KHARTOUM) - The technical committee tasked with redrawing the border between Sudan and Ethiopia said it would complete its work on the ground during this year.

November 14, 2015 (ADDIS ABABA) -The number of South Sudan refugees crossing borders to Ethiopia due to the armed conflict at home has saw a significant decline during the recent weeks, a UN refugee agency official told Sudan Tribune on Friday.

Kisut Gebregzabiher, UNHCR’s senior public information officer in Addis Ababa, said currently an average six South Sudanese refugees arrive at Ethiopian borders per day a sharp decline compared to previous months where large numbers of refugees had been recorded on daily bases.

November 11, 2015 (ADDIS ABABA) –Ethiopia’s refugee agency has launched an urgent appeal for food aid to assist hundreds of thousands of refugees particularly South Sudanese refugees.

Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs (ARRA), a local implementing partner of UNHCR has called for supplies of food for over 730,000 refugees from South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea and Sudan who are being sheltered at different camps in Ethiopia.

September 26, 2015 (KHARTOUM) - An Egyptian security official Saturday said the authorities rescued 174 illegal immigrants, mostly Sudanese as they were heading to Europe on a boat, 47 nautical miles north west of Mersa Matruh.

Egypt’s al-Youm al-Sabi’i daily newspaper quoted the director of security in Mersa Matruh, Maj. Gen. Hashim Lutfi, as saying that the rescued immigrants include 23 Egyptians and 151 from nine other countries.

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said the immunization campaign is being provided in all South Sudanese refugee camps in Gambela, a region located within the Ethiopia-South Sudan border.

July 6, 2015 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) said that 3000 South Sudanese families have recently arrived in Sudan’s White Nile state bringing the total number of refugees from the newborn country in the state 84,000 refugees.

SRCS executive director in the White Nile, Osama Osman, said that 3197 families have arrived in the seven cantonment sites in the state from June 1 to July 5, 2015.

May 29, 2015 (ADDIS ABABA) – United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) said on Friday it has relocated a total of 42, 616 South Sudanese refugees from flood prone Leitchour and Nip Nip camps to a newly built Jewi camp in Ethiopia’s Gambela region.

The relocation operation was temporarily suspended between Sunday and Tuesday 26 May due to the Ethiopian parliamentary elections but recommenced on Wednesday.

The camp-to-camp operations, which begun on May 8, involves over 400 buses, 86 trucks helicopter.
