The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, is continuing to distribute Ramadan aid to displaced people around the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, and those affected by border conflicts.

The ERC delegation intensified its humanitarian operations in the country, to include 12 beneficiary areas around Addis Ababa and neighbouring provinces, as per the directives of the wise leadership to implement programmes, including Ramadan programmes, which aim to benefit 700,000 displaced people and those affected by last year’s border conflicts.

This is the Flying Eye Hospital which has treated more than 15 million patients worldwide for a range of eye-related diseases.

Currently on its first trip to the UAE since 1982, the hospital is looking to build long-standing relationships with medical professionals.

The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has commenced preparations for launching a humanitarian relief programme in the drought-hit Ethiopia and Somalia. Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Chairman of the RCA, said the RCA would transfer funds for purchasing relief supplies to be distributed to the drought-affected population in Ethiopia. 'Delivery of food items will be made in coordination with the Ethiopian Development Agency,' he added.

According to him, funds had been provided to purchase relief for drought-famine persons in Somalia.

The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has begun delivery of relief aid to victims of drought in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Ethiopia and Somalia. "Drought has caused crop failure and killed livestock in some parts of the Horn of Africa. The Zayed Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works has allocated Dh 26 million for the relief campaign in the drought-hit countries in the Horn of Africa.

Acting upon instructions by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and follow up of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Foundation will use these funds to drill water wells in a number of Eastern African countries of Djibouti, Tanzania and Ethiopia whose some regions were affected by drought due to short of rains.
