The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women concluded its work today by adopting observations and recommendations arising from its consideration of eight country reports that it took up during its forty-ninth session.

Under consideration during the three-week session were periodic reports submitted by the Governments of Costa Rica, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Italy, Nepal, Republic of Korea, Singapore and Zambia.

  1. La Convention relative à l’élimination de toutes les formes de discrimination à l’égard des femmes («la Convention») a été adoptée par l’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies en décembre 1979. Elle est entrée en vigueur le 3 septembre 1981, date à laquelle elle est devenue une loi qui impose à tous les États, qui l’ont signé, l’obligation de prendre un engagement ferme à agir.

Preface

1 . The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (“the Convention”) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1979. It entered into force on 3 September 1981, whereupon it became law, requiring all signatory States to make a firm commitment to action.
