For a Policy Framework on Pastoralism in Africa
African Union and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
Pastoralists across Africa have called for a continent-wide policy framework that will begin to secure and protect the lives, livelihood and rights of pastoralists across Africa.
Each week, the World Health Organization Health Action in Crises in Geneva produces information highlights on critical health-related activities in countries where there are humanitarian crises. Drawing on the various WHO programmes, contributions cover activities from field and country offices and the support provided by WHO regional offices and headquarters.
The mandate of the WHO departments specifically concerned with Emergency and Humanitarian Action in Crises is to increase the effectiveness of the WHO contribution to crisis preparedness and response, transition and recovery.

CROSS BORDER & REGIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Long Rains in the Horn
As forecasted in March by the IGAD Prediction and applications Centre (ICPAC), the heavy rains expected in many parts of the Horn of Africa are ongoing. According to Somalia Water and Land Information Management (SWALIM), the water levels of rivers in Somalia are within the normal range expected at this time of the year. However, fears remain over the possibility of flooding in the Shabelle and Juba riverine areas as a result of increased rainfall in Ethiopian highlands.
