CHAD: INSECURITY HINDERS THE MOBILITY OF HUMANITARIAN AGENCIES

According to JRS Chad, growing insecurity is hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid and services to refugees and internally displaced persons in the east of the country.

Since the clashes between rebels and government troops at the beginning of May, armed banditry has been on the rise.

In the past two weeks, JRS and partners have been the victims of robberies on two occasions. First, JRS staff were held up near Guereda and their vehicle was taken.

SUDAN: DETERIORATING SECURITY HAMPERS PROVISION OF HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE

According to a UN refugee agency (UNHCR) statement on 24 March, the deteriorating security situation in several parts of southern Sudan is hampering the return of Sudanese refugees and disrupting humanitarian activities in the area.

UGANDA: GOVERNMENT AND REBELS SIGN PHASE TWO OF THE PEACE DEAL

On 2 May, the government of Uganda and the rebel group, the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) signed an accord to extend the ceasefire and agreed phase two of a peace agreement. The previous ceasefire ended earlier this year on 28 February, creating instability and raising anxieties among the population in northern Uganda.
