LIVINGSTONE, 3 April 2008 (IRIN) - South Africa cut a lone figure in Zambia's tourist capital of Livingstone as the only African country not to endorse a global ban on the use of all cluster munitions.

Africa's economic powerhouse and the continent's leading arms producer was the odd one out following a two day meeting of 39 African countries, which on 1 April, endorsed the Livingstone Declaration calling for the eradication of all cluster munitions.

NAIROBI, 17 October (IRIN) - Dennis McNamara, UN Special Coordinator on Internal Displacement, will head a UN-led inter-agency mission to Ethiopia and Eritrea on 17 October to examine the problems of internally displaced persons. A recently established Senior Inter-Agency Network on Internal Displaced will look into the plight of the displaced, which has been declared a major global humanitarian concern. The displaced are often invisible as a group, McNamara told IRIN, and no single humanitarian agency has an exclusive mandate to respond to their needs.
