Italy is opening a humanitarian corridor for refugees from Eritrea, South Sudan and Somalia with the support of Caritas. An agreement with the Italian government was signed last week.

The women, men and children will come from refugee camps in Ethiopia. Once in Italy, Caritas will help the refugees through the project “Protetto. Rifugiato a casa mia” (Protected: a refugee in my home) which is in its third year of helping house refugees with members of local communities in Italy.

According to the United Nations Refugee Agency 59.5 million people were forced to emigrate from their places of origin due to armed conflicts, persecution, widespread violence and human rights violations by the end of 2014.

Une douzaine de personnes attendent devant une ancienne paroisse au centre de Calais, transformée en entrepôt. Ce sont des migrants qui attendent de recevoir des vêtements chauds pour pouvoir se protéger des rigueurs de l’hiver français.

Bien que l’on soit au milieu de l’hiver, certains portent des tongs et des vêtements légers, effilochés et pleins de trous. Le magasin-vestiaire du Secours Catholique-Caritas France leur fournit des vêtements plus chauds tels que des pulls, des gants et des écharpes pour les aider à affronter les températures glaciales.

Cáritas. 26 de julio de 2012.- En julio de 2011 se declaró una grave crisis alimentaria en el Cuerno de África que afectó a Somalia, Eritrea, Yibuti, Etiopía y Kenia. A la llamada de emergencia que lanzaron las Cáritas de los países afectados a través de la red internacional de Cáritas, Cáritas Española respondió con 2.417.629 euros, de los cuales 776.967 se han destinado a la rehabilitación y 1.640.662 a emergencia.
