Some 20 countries to benefit from new agreement

21 December 2004, Rome - The European Commission and FAO have agreed to a new partnership to improve the ability of decision makers to target food insecure and vulnerable people and to take effective action to reduce hunger, the two organizations announced today.

The three-year, 15 million euro programme initiated by the agreement covers 20 countries across the world and aims to identify and analyze food security needs and recommend ways to reduce hunger based on the findings, the two Organizations announced today.

I. Introduction

  1. The present report is submitted pursuant to paragraph 12 of Security Council resolution 1320 (2000) of 15 September 2000, and provides an update on developments in the peace process since my report dated 2 September 2004 (S/2004/708). NAIROBI, 15 December (IRIN) - Eritrea has called on Ethiopia to abide by the ruling of an independent commission that delineated their disputed border in 2002 and urged the international community to help secure peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
