REGIONAL OVERVIEW

According to UNHCR, 5,600,199 have now fled Syria to surrounding countries in the region. 1.4 million of them fled in 2014 alone with an average of more than 3.935 people per day. In 2015 more than 617,188 Syrians fled the country, an average of more than 1,714 per day. In 2017 more than 623,374 Syrians fled the country, an average of more than 1,731 per day.
Children now make up 45% of the refugee population, meaning there are an estimated 2,520,089 refugee children in the region.

(MissionNewswire) Salesian missionaries in Egypt are offering new seed grants to past graduates of the Salesian Sunrise Project for refugees and vulnerable Egyptians. This year, 400 people are receiving support as part of this project. In addition, 80 past graduates were invited to participate in in-depth seed fund grant training. These graduates submitted entrepreneurial projects to the Sunrise team who chose to fund approximately 40 projects. Selected grantees received $500 and six months of mentorship to launch their business.

Syria continues to experience destruction to almost every aspect of life and livelihoods, including massive devastation of homes, businesses, basic services and infrastructure.
Sixty-nine percent of Syrians inside the country live in extreme poverty and 13.1 million people there require humanitarian assistance.
