As the brutal conflict continues in Syria, millions of people continue to be in need. Hundreds of thousands have been killed in the conflict between the Assad regime, extremist groups and moderate opposition groups. In response to the crisis, the UK has committed £2.71 billion2 since 2012. This includes DFID allocations to over 30 implementing partners (including United Nations agencies, international non-governmental organisations and the Red Cross) and is helping to meet the immediate needs of vulnerable people in Syria and of refugees in the region.

Beirut , Lebanon 3rd August, 2018, Beirut — In a signing ceremony today between the Ambassador of Italy, Massimo Marotti, and the UN Under Secretary General, and ESCWA Executive Secretary, Mohamed Ali Alhakim, a new project was launched that will empower women refugees from Syria and vulnerable women and girls in host communities to play an active role in improving their lives and advocating for their rights.

Egypt remains a destination and transit country for refugees and asylumseekers, most of whom live in urban areas.

Currently, 228,941 refugees and asylum-seekers of 58 different nationalities are registered with UNHCR Egypt. More than half of them are from Syria.

UNHCR registers and documents refugees and asylum-seekers and facilitates their access to basic services, such as health and education.

Highlights

  • UNICEF continued to respond to emerging IDP influx with multi-sectoral life-saving assistance. In East Ghouta in Syria, 60,500 IDPs had access to safe drinking water and sanitation services, including 50,000 people in Duma through water-trucking. 1,700 school-age children accessed education through the rehabilitation of 18 classrooms in Dweir IDP shelter.

U.S. Food Assistance Helps Syrian Refugees Regain Stability

Syria’s brutal civil war is now in its seventh year. The UN Refugee Agency estimates 13 million people in Syria are suffering from violence, displacement or lack of access to basics like food. Another 5.6 million people have fled Syria to seek safety in neighboring countries.

U.S. emergency food assistance is helping millions of people in Syria and Syrian refugees in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey to get by.

Four military aircrafts carrying the Moroccan humanitarian aid sent to the Palestinian people landed on Tuesday in Cairo.

The humanitarian aid sent upon the high instructions of HM King Mohammed VI will be delivered to Gaza by land.

The reception of this aid was supervised by Morocco's ambassador to Egypt, Ahmad Tazi.

This operation includes the setting up of a field hospital of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in Gaza, the delivery of 5,000 blankets, 25 tons of essential medicines, as well as foodstuff (113 tons) by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
