  • On 26 July, UNRWA held an extraordinary session of its Advisory Commission (AdCom) to discuss the Agency’s most devastating financial crisis since its establishment. The extraordinary Advisory Commission session discussed a special report to be sent by the Commissioner-General to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and on to all 193 members of the United Nations.

  • The Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders visited Gaza on 15 July to get a first-hand impression of the current situation in the Gaza Strip. The delegation visited an UNRWA Health Centre in Rafah, southern Gaza. The Foreign minister met with UNRWA Interim Director of Operations, Christer Nordahl and was briefed by Field Health Programme Chief, Dr. Ghada Al Jadba on the health situation of Palestine refugees in the Gaza Strip. The deteriorating situation in Gaza was marked by more heavy airstrikes and other fire over the past 24 hours. Lack of movement in the streets, closed banks and majority of markets not open, remains a common theme across the five Areas in the Gaza Strip. It is reported that most Government installations are not functioning, except hospitals. People in Gaza are scared and fearful of what each new day may bring.

A reported 29 Palestine Refugees (PR) were killed in the last 2 weeks as a result. UNRWA estimates over 50% of registered PR are displaced in Syria or in neighbouring countries.
