Regional Flow Monitoring Network

30 FMPs and nine mobile FMPs are currently operational in seven countries.

In Burkina Faso, data was collected from five FMPs during the month of October 2018. An average of 1,117 individuals were observed crossing Flow Monitoring Points daily - a slight decrease of three per cent from the September figures.

Djibouti – An important seaport country in the Horn of Africa occupied by less than a million people, Djibouti is at the crossroads of one of the most transited and increasingly dangerous migration routes in the world.

With neighbouring Somalia to the Southeast, Ethiopia to the West and South and Eritrea to the North, Djibouti is a patchwork of ethnicities: its citizens descendants of European 19th century settlers, the Afar from Ethiopia, and the French-speaking Somali.

1. Augmentation Plan 2019

In November, the Logistics Cluster worked with its partners on an augmentation plan for 2019, in line with the expected increase of humanitarian activities across Yemen. The Logistics Cluster aims to extend its scope of work to respond to the additional logistics needs of humanitarian organisations, maintaining the purpose of maximizing the available resources in country, and avoid duplication of efforts. In November, 26,000 new displacement were monitored by the UNHCR-led Protection and Returns Monitoring Network (PRMN), a decrease compared to last month. Half of the displacements occurred in Bakool region due to lack of livelihood as pastoralists search for greener pastures. In 2018 so far, PRMN has monitored 858,000 internal displacements due to conflicts, floods and drought.

It is estimated there are 2.6 million internally displaced people in Somalia.

This figure includes voluntary repatriation from Kenya (82,840) and Assisted Spontaneous return from Yemen (3,053) as well as 1,158 returns from other countries such as Djibouti (696), Libya (353), Sudan (64), Eritrea (34), Pakistan, Gambia, Angola, Cambodia and others. Somali refugees from these or other countries who return spontaneously without assistance from the UNHCR are not included.

Geneva/Djibouti City – The International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) forecasts a 50 per cent year-on-year rise over 2017 in migrant arrivals to Yemen – with nearly 150,000 migrants expected to enter the country in 2018.
