ADO ABDOU

La cité de Kitchanga, située à 80 km à l’ouest de Goma, a abrité le 15 octobre dernier, un atelier de clôture du Projet Green and Safe Charcoal. Il s’agit d’un projet environnemental et socio-économique au bénéfice des ex combattants et leurs dépendants, des jeunes à risque et des femmes vulnérables. Financé par la MONUSCO pour un coût de 100.000 dollars américains, le projet a été exécuté par le Fonds mondial pour la nature (WWF), sous le pilotage du Ministère provincial de l’environnement et du développement durable.

C’était lors de la tenue, le 12 octobre dernier, du Comité Technique conjoint du Projet « PAMOJA KWA AMANI » (Ensemble pour la Paix en Swahili) qui regroupe le STAREC (Programme de Stabilisation et de Reconstruction des Zones sortant des conflits armés), ISSSS (Stratégie internationale de soutien à la sécurité et la stabilisation pour l'est de la RDC) et leurs partenaires de mise en œuvre.

Thousands of Congolese refugees are returning from Angola to the Kasai region in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where fighting amongst armed groups has lessened and security conditions have improved.

Since 18 August, thousands of Congolese refugees left Angola to come back to DRC. A Tripartite Agreement was subsequently signed on 23-24 August between UNHCR and the Angola and DRC Governments, to start an organized Voluntary Repatriations movement.

In Kasenyi, Ituri Province, UNHCR and partner CARITAS continued the construction of collective hangars to respond to the arrival of some 4,300 IDPs. So far, 21 hangars are occupied by 252 households. In addition, 333 individual shelters were finalized.

SITUATION OVERVIEW

Cattle-related violence and other conflict continued in multiple locations throughout the country, leading to further displacement and delays in delivering services in those areas. Flooding also continued to pose problems for communities in different parts of the country, particularly in Jonglei and Warrap, demonstrating the importance of building resilience to climate-related shocks.

UNHCR and partners are speeding up groundwork for the voluntary repatriation of 4,000 Central African refugees located in camps in Sud Ubangi Province, following a Tripartite Meeting held on 5 July between UNHCR and the governments of DRC and CAR.

From 23 to 25 July in Lóvua settlement (Angola), a first crossborder meeting took place between UNHCR’s DRC and Angola offices, to discuss the voluntary repatriation of DRC refugees from Angola.
