David Thomas, a volunteer Quaker Missionary from Oregon with the Rwanda Volcano Relief Committee (RVRC) of the Rwanda Yearly Meeting, reports that they have begun distributing AFSC's emergency grant of $10,000 to victims of the volcano in Goma. As of Friday evening, about $5,000 of this grant is already in the hands of needy people in the form of food and other essential items, including blankets.

Philadelphia, PA - Following the volcanic eruption of Mount Nyiragongo near Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), a Quaker peace, humanitarian service and social justice organization, is launching a relief drive to assist the thousands of homeless and displaced persons in the area, starting with $20,000 from its crisis fund for emergency relief efforts.
