Mauritania hosts over 2,200 urban refugees and asylumseekers and almost 52,000 Malian refugees in Mbera, a camp established in 2012 in the arid south-eastern region close to the Malian border.

Despite the conclusion of a peace agreement in 2015, large-scale returns of Malian refugees are not expected due to persistent violence in northern Mali. In November alone, 482 new arrivals were registered in Mbera.

As the situation in northern Mali continues to be unstable, funding gaps may have a dire impact on the continuation of activities in 2018.

DR Congo has been declared the worst affected by displacement in the world by the global analysts, IDMC. A surge in violence that started in 2016 has forced over 1.7 million people to flee their homes this year alone; that’s over 5,500 people per day.

Life in prison for men who raped dozens of little girls in Congo

In an extraordinary and landmark ruling, 11 Congolese militia members were convicted today of crimes against humanity for murder and the rape of 37 young children. The verdict represents a stunning victory for the victims, their families, their community of Kavumu, where the crimes occurred, for the wide array of organizations that mobilized around them, and also for justice in the DRC.

Attaque jeudi passé dans la soirée de la Base de la Compagnie opérationnelle de la Force de la MONUSCO à Semiliki dans le territoire de Beni, dans le Nord-Kivu :

Des présumés éléments de l’ADF ont mené cette attaque qui a entrainé des affrontements prolongés entre ce groupe rebelle et la Force de la MONUSCO.

A 16 ans, Odette*, qui avait quitté le Burundi en 2015 pour la République démocratique du Congo, a demandé au CICR son aide pour retourner au pays, et en novembre dernier, accompagnée de sa petite fille Fabiola*, elle a finalement retrouvé sa famille, dans la joie de tous.
