Country Operations

In 2018, there will be Humanitarian Response Plans in 23 countries: Afghanistan, Burundi, Chad, Cameroon, CAR, DRC, Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen. The HRPs for Cameroon, Chad, CAR, DRC, Somalia, Haiti, Sudan, Nigeria (and potentially Niger and Afghanistan) will be multi-year Plans.

Le Sous-Cluster sur les violences basées sur le genre (SC-VBG) en République Démocratique du Congo (RDC) a conduit à Kananga (26 mai - 05 juin 2017), Mbuji-Mayi (14 - 21 juillet) et Tshikapa (21 - 28 juillet 2017) des missions d’évaluations sur la réponse globale aux violences basées dans les communautés affectées par les conséquences de la crise dans la région du Kasaï.

Au cours du 1er semestre 2017, 4763 cas de violences basées sur le genre ont été assistés dans les structures de prise en charge de la RDC, selon la base de données nationale. Avec 55% des cas, on note que c’est au Nord-Kivu que les incidents sont les plus rapportés. En effet, les acteurs de terrain qui contribuent au système national de collecte des données sont nombreux dans cette province. A cela, il faut ajouter les informations récoltées lors des évaluations du Sous-cluster sur les violences basées sur le genre (VBG) entre mai et juillet 2017 au Kasaï, Kasaï Central et Kasaï Oriental.

ProCap aims to strengthen the collaborative response of protection agencies and non-protection mandated organisations. To do this, it deploys senior personnel with proven protection expertise at field, regional and global operations and trains mid-level protection staff from standby partners and humanitarian organisations. The Project objectives and activities are guided by the 2014-2016 ProCap Strategy.

THE GLOBAL PROTECTION CLUSTER CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION to protect people in Kasaï, Kasaï Central and Kasaï Oriental provinces, in the Democratic Republic of Congo where 1.27 million civilians have been forcibly displaced from the 3 Kasais, as well as neighboring provinces such as Kwilu, Lomami, Lualaba and Sankur. The displacement is the result of clashes between militia groups and the Congolese armed forces, but also between militias and self-defense groups and between rival militia groups, and intercommunity tensions.

INTRODUCTION

This is the eighth Protection Trends report prepared by the South Sudan Protection Cluster (PC) in close collaboration with Child Protection, SGBV and Land Mines and Explosive Remnants of War sub-clusters, and other protection actors.

The report provides an overview of the protection situation highlighting the main threats to civilians that have caused displacement, and describes trends on issues reported and observed in the second and third quarters of 2016 (1 April through 30 September).

After providing an overview of the protection situation, the paper discusses trends on issues reported and observed in the first quarter of 2016 (1 January through 31 March), including forced displacement and population movements, threats against children, gender-based violence, and landmines and explosive remnants of war.
