Gunfire in Ezo County, Western Equatoria state forced dozens into neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.

The shooting started at 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning and went on till afternoon, sparking fear among the population.

Ezo County Commissioner Luciano Kumbo-kpite said on Thursday that the shooting started when soldiers responded to reports that a group of people had broken into a food store at a refugee camp.

The Western Equatoria State government has formed an Ebola task force in response to an outbreak of the deadly disease reported in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

The team will carry out surveillance along the common border and set up an isolation unit at Yambio hospital for suspected cases.

The Acting State Minister for Health, Pia Phillip says the taskforce is comprised of experts from different organizations.

(2nd April 2013) - Congolese refugees in Morobo County of Central Equatoria State have begun receiving one month emergency food ration supplied by the World Food Program.

The Commissioner of Morobo County, Moses Simon Soro, said the food donation came following the increasing influx of refugees fleeing from DR Congo a few months ago.

Simon said that the county authority is admitting more refugee children to join primary schools while allocating agricultural land for them to begin cultivation.

More than 600,000 Congolese refugees are suffering from hunger in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State, the county commissioner said.

Moses Simon Sworo, said that most of the refugees are risking their lives by crossing back into Congo, where they escaped deadly violence, in search of food. Sworo, told Radio Miraya that there is an outbreak of diarhrea among the refugees. The refugees reportedly entered Morobo County last week, fleeing rebel fighting in Eastern Congo.

Over three thousand six hundred refugees fleeing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo have crossed into Moro County in Central Equatoria State.

The Refugees are fleeing conflict between DR Congo government forces and M23 rebels in eastern part of the country.

The Deputy Secretary of South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Morobo County Arike Timothy says that the refugees started arriving in Morobo County on the 14 December.

Two thousand five hundred households in Lasu Payam, Yei River County have received banana suckers to improve food security and household incomes.

The banana plants that were provided by the UN refugee agency UNHCR and International NGO Across, were given to communities hosting refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The assistant commissioner for agriculture in Yei river county, Edmond Gogo has advised the communities to plant the suckers and care for them well in order to support the large communities.

Dozens of new Congolese refugees have been arriving in recent days at Nyori refugee camp in Lasu Payam in Yei County, Central Equatoria state.

The refugees are fleeing violence from the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, according to humanitarian sources.

So far, there are about eight thousand refugees in the camp.

The latest victims of LRA attacks are arriving in groups of ten to twenty per day.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says there are approximately 28,000 refugees living in southern Sudan. UNHCR Deputy Representative in Southern Sudan, Mireille Girard, said the majority of the refugees are from Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo which have been affected by the sectarian militia Lord's Resistance Army's activities.

Addressing the press in Juba on Tuesday, Girard also hailed efforts of the Government of Southern Sudan in protecting refugees.

The South Sudan Assistant representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugee (UNHCR), Geoff Wordley, said that over three hundred thousand South Sudanese Refugees have been repatriated to the South for the forthcoming elections and the Referendum process. Speaking to Miraya FM, Wordley said that the figures of southern Sudanese refugees in Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia have been reduced. Following an African tour, the Minister of Telecommunication and Postal Services, Gier Cung, has urged the Democratic Republic of Congo, south Sudan and Uganda to speed up curbing LRA activities in the regions.

Mr. Cung said that it is the responsibility of Uganda, the DRC and south Sudan to end LRA looting, abduction, raping and killing of people.

The UNHCR transported yesterday about 500 refugees whom were chased to Lobona as a result of the recent LRA attacks on western Equatoria in preparation for sending them to their home-towns.

The head of UN peacekeeping has asked the UN Security Council for more than three thousand (3,000) extra troops to protect civilians in the eastern DR Congo.

Alain Le Roy said current peacekeeper numbers were not enough to protect civilians from violence perpetrated by rebel groups and the Congolese army.

The Southern Sudan relief and rehabilitation office (SSRRC) in Western Equatoria State has revealed to Miraya FM that it has received information of new influx of refugees in Iba County, following recent attacks in DR Congo.

The director Lexson Wali said a total of about 500 refugee households have already been registered in Nabanga Payam, Madebe Payam and Buo by the SSRRC officials in the county.

He said plans are underway to analyze the situation on the ground.
