Kananga, le 20 avril 2018 – Le gouverneur de la province du Kasaï-Central a lancé, le 12 avril 2018, un projet de réduction de la violence communautaire (CVR) dénommé, «Réduction de la violence à travers les règlements coutumiers et la sensibilisation à la non-violence des populations dans le Kasaï-Central.»

Le grand Kasaï et notamment les provinces du Kasaï, KasaïCentral et Kasaï-Oriental, ont été secouées durant 15 mois par un conflit de pouvoir coutumier dans la chefferie de Kamuina Nsapu, en territoire de Dibaya, dans la province du Kasaï-Central.

Thousands Flee Violence in DR Congo’s Djugu Territory

Since mid-December, unidentified assailants have killed more than 260 people and burned thousands of homes in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s northeastern Djugu territory in Ituri province. The atrocities we have documented include massacres, rapes, and decapitation. More than 200,000 people have fled their homes, many to neighboring Uganda.

Highlights:

D. R. Congo: since week 12, epidemic increase of the new cholera outbreak in Ituri, near the Lake Albert where are located several camps of IDPs returning from Uganda. Persistence of other cholera outbreak, in particular along the Congo River axis and some micro-outbreaks in Kinshasa.

Liberia: One suspected case was reported at week 14.

Nigeria: At week 13, 337 cases and 8 deaths were reported from seven States. Of these, 19 were laboratory confirmed.

Kinshasa – Beginning on Monday (16/04) and at the request of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), IOM and ACP-EU Migration Action hosted a five-day training on countering trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling for Congolese Government officials.

Experiencing numerous cases of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, the DRC is a country of origin, transit and, to a lesser extent, a destination for trafficked and smuggler migrants.

Yambio town is located in Yambio County, Upper Nile State, near South Sudan’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Yambio town was the centre of significant armed clashes and widespread displacement in 2016, and hosts a large population of internally displaced persons (IDPs) many of whom have started to return home as of early 2018.

In the Central African Republic (CAR), a main obstacle for return of displaced people has been the destruction of their homes after they had initially fled. With the support of their community and our teams, displaced people can finally return home. CAR has been mired in crisis since 2013, when the Muslim-dominated ex-Seleka coalition took power, provoking violent clashes with the predominantly Christian anti-balaka group. This led to intercommunity violence, deeply affecting the southern province of Ndjoukou. Schools, health centres and houses were looted and burned by armed groups.
