En el origen del proyecto que ha dado lugar a la creación del Observatorio de la Acción Humanitaria percibíamos la necesidad de hacer un seguimiento estable de la acción humanitaria en nuestro país, compartiendo un sentimiento muy extendido por aquellos que buscan la mejora del trabajo solidario a través de la reflexión, la discusión franca y la crítica (y autocrítica). Con esa intención los Informes anuales, iniciados con el análisis de 2003, pretenden ir cubriendo ese hueco, con clara vocación de permanencia y de apertura a la colaboración con la comunidad humanitaria española.

As the graph indicates, the past six months have been a period of great uncertainty in DRC, as the country went through two rounds of presidential elections. Fortunately, parliamentary and presidential elections took place without being marred by widespread violence, and spoiler elements were largely kept at bay, meaning that the transition to the DRC's first democratically elected government in the past four decades has proceeded rather smoothly.

Lors du déroulement des opérations du projet CRK (Cummunity Recovery in Katanga) du PNUD à Mitwaba,une manifestation des ex-combattants inscrits dans ce programme a eu lieu les 22 et 23 décembre dans cette cité. En effet, les ex-combattants exigeaient d'être traités de la même manière que ceux inscrits dans le programme PNDDR piloté par la CONADER, auprès de laquelle ils ont également réclamé des kits de sortie qu'elle leur aurait promis. Ils ont aussitôt encerclé les enclos de la CONADER et les ont ensuite détruits.

KINSHASA, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Weeks of flooding and landslides have left thousands homeless in Democratic Republic of Congo's Eastern Kasai province, local officials said on Thursday.

Jean-Marie Mpunga, provincial president of the Congolese Red Cross, said his colleagues had counted around 3,000 homeless people in the provincial capital Mbuji-Mayi, many of them sheltering with neighbours or relatives.

But he said the real figure could be much higher.

While the humanitarian community focuses on recent displacement caused by renegade militia attacks in the east, deep in the center of the country thousands of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) who fled the 1998-2003 civil war struggle daily to rebuild their lives with almost no assistance.

KINSHASA, 28 December (IRIN) - Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes in eastern DRC due to renewed clashes between the regular army, and forces allied to renegade commander Laurent Nkunda, according to military sources and the UN peacekeeping mission, MONUC.

The fighting was quelled on Thursday with the intervention of MONUC patrols "to protect civilians and stop the fighting", MONUC spokesperson Lt-Col Didier Rancher said.

The United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has furnished $241 million to help provide relief to disaster-hit areas in some 30 countries since its establishment nine months ago, the world body's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced today.

Of the total, $164 million was disbursed from the rapid response facility for new or rapidly deteriorating emergencies in 24 countries. An additional $77 million from funds earmarked for under-funded emergencies was distributed across 16 countries.

L'Est de la RDC a été, au cours de ces 8 dernières années, une des zones les plus violentes du monde, avec un bilan de près de 4 millions de morts et elle reste encore une région dont la situation est très volatile malgré le succès des élections nationales et la présence de la communauté internationale.

La brève visite du 18 décembre dans la ville de Sake (27 km au nord de Goma) des sections PIO et Droits de l'Homme de la MONUC était suffisante pour constater la fragilité de la situation sécuritaire et humanitaire dans la région.

Bukavu, CONGO 22 Dec 2006 - An IRC emergency team is responding to a serious outbreak of cholera in Congo. Over the past two months the seven-person team has provided almost 4,000 liters of cholera treatment drugs, 3,000 sacks of oral re-hydration salts and over 40 treatment beds to affected people in South Kivu province. The team also installed three 10,000-liter fresh water containers at the Bukavu provincial hospital and the Panzi hospital in South Kivu.

Over the next few years the Netherlands will give extra support to provide children in emergencies with education. Agnes van Ardenne, the Minister for Development Cooperation, has entered into an agreement to this effect with the UN Children's Fund Unicef. A €166 million contribution will be used to support a Unicef programme that aims to provide 25 million children and young people in 40 countries with a better education and a more promising future.

The programme will enable 10 million children who are currently deprived of any form of education whatsoever to return to school.
