  • Dengue fever in Burkina Faso

  • Cholera in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

  • Cholera in Tanzania.

Since gaining independence in 1962, Uganda has provided asylum to people fleeing war and persecution in neighboring countries, especially South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Rwanda and Burundi. Uganda's progressive refugee policy grant refugees freedom of movement, the right to seek employment and establish businesses, and to access public services such as education, health care and justice. In refugee-hosting districts, services are integrated with government service delivery systems, whenever feasible.

Deyr rains perform poorly in early October in southern and central Somalia

KEY MESSAGES

  • The Deyr (October to December) season is delayed over southern and central Somalia, with rainfall totals less than 80 percent of average across many areas. In southeastern Ethiopia, rainfall has been average to slightly above average, but concentrated within 1-2 days of rainfall.

Highlights

  • WFP continues to support a growing number of Burundian and Congolese refugees hosted in six camps in Rwanda.
    Additionally, WFP is building national capacity to design and manage home grown hunger solutions.

  • Despite generous contributions from donors, the refugee operation urgently requires USD 11.4 million to avert possible supply chain breaks expected at the end of November. WFP will most likely implement ration reductions starting November if additional resources are not forthcoming.

Les Territoires de Fizi et de Kabambare sont touchés par une crise humanitaire alarmante qui ne cesse de s’accentuer depuis fin juin.
Les alertes préliminaires des acteurs humanitaires font état de quelque 285 000 personnes déplacées depuis le 29 juin dans ces deux territoires.
En comparaison, les alertes reçues pour toute l’année 2016 signalaient le déplacement de seulement 21 000 personnes.

UNHCR in 2017 – by the numbers

As of September 2017, UNHCR’s budget is at an historic high of $7.763 billion, which is currently 46% funded

This growth is concurrent with the unabated levels of global displacement, with 67.7 million people of concern to UNHCR worldwide.

The funding gap is widening, now standing at 54%. Based on indications received from donors and analysis of funding trends, UNHCR estimates the gap may reduce to 47% by year’s end.
