Urgent aid to the Central African Republic also discussed at UNICEF Executive Board meeting

NEW YORK, 4 February 2014 – The European Union announced today that it has allocated €320 million ($431 million) through UNICEF to improve the health and nutrition of children and women in 15 developing countries and to help speed progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.

Introduction

Traditionally, sanitation has not received the priority it deserves. It has not been widely recognized how good sanitation policies and practices can underpin socio-economic development and environmental protection. This study provides an estimation of economic impacts on populations without access to improved sanitation in order to provide information on the losses to society of the current sanitation situation.

The African Mediators' Retreat 2009 was co-hosted by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD Centre) and the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation on 24-27 March in Zanzibar. As part of the Oslo forum series - the endeavour of the HD Centre and the Norwegian government to work towards the strengthening of mediation practice - the African Mediators' Retreat 2009 was the second event taking place in Africa.
