70 YEARS AND COUNTING

Seven decades ago, the world was recovering from a devastating world war. For millions of child survivors of that war, peace still encompassed a landscape of significant challenges and damaged futures. UNICEF was created to help those children – no matter who they were, no matter where they were from. The only thing that mattered for the nascent organization was achieving results for children in need.

President of Council Appoints Members of the Commission of Inquiry to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights Law in Syria

The Human Rights Council this afternoon concluded its general debate and heard an address by Radhika Coomaraswamy, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict. The President of the Council also announced the appointment of members of the Commission of Inquiry to investigate alleged violations of human rights law in Syria.

The 2010-2011 UNEP Programme of Work accordingly includes a dedicated Disasters and Conflicts sub-programme, which is comprised of four operational pillars: post-crisis environmental assessment, postcrisis environmental recovery, disaster risk reduction and environmental cooperation for peacebuilding.
