Butembo, le 15 mars 2018 – Dans le cadre du renforcement de capacité de la population civile, la police des Nations unies (UNPOL) a lancé une série de séances de sensibilisation sur la lutte contre les violences basées sur le genre, à l’intention des différentes couches de la population de Butembo parmi lesquelles, les associations féminines, les jeunes ainsi que les autorités.

Le coordonnateur du Bureau de la MONUSCO à Butembo et Lubero ainsi que le maire de la ville ont officiellement lancé cette série de séances de sensibilisation.

Kalemie, le 15 mars 2018 – La Section des Affaires civiles de la MONUSCO, en collaboration avec les autorités municipales de Kalemie, a facilité la création d'un nouveau comité local de protection (CLP) au quartier de Dav, au centre-ville de Kalemie, en province du Tamganyika.

Peu avant la cérémonie d’installation, une vingtaine de participants comprenant les chefs de quartiers, ceux des avenues et des blocs, ont participé à une session de renforcement des capacités sur le mandat du comité et le rôle des membres.

Between March and July 2017, close to 35,000 Congolese refugees fled atrocities in the Kasai region and sought safety in Angola. While the Angolan government has offered many safety from militia and army attacks in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), its treatment of those who have fled is troubling.

In 2017, DG ECHO gave EUR 3 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support its Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF). When a National Red Cross or Red Crescent Society needs immediate financial support to respond to a disaster, it can request funds from the DREF.

This is Mwasi Kallunga and her seven children, including her 18-month-old baby, Shabani. You all have this picture in front of you. You can see little Shabani has the distended belly of many malnourished children. I met them last Tuesday in Katanika camp in Kalemie, in the stunning and rich landscape surrounding Lake Tanganyika in Eastern Congo.
