Overview

So far in 2018, a total of 13,717 refugees and migrants arrived in Greece by sea. The majority are from Syria (38%),
Iraq (22%) and Afghanistan (13%). More than half of the population are women (24%) and children (36%), while 40% are men.

Arrivals in June 2018, at 2,439 decreased in comparison to May, when 2,916 people arrived on the islands. Arrivals during the first six months of 2018 are 48% higher than those of 2017.

According to the ‘Report the Abuse’ survey, 86% of aid workers know a colleague who has experienced sexual violence associated with their work. HIGHLIGHTS

DTM flow monitoring data compiled from national authorities and IOM offices show that the number of arrivals through Mediterranean routes between January and March 2018 is half the number of arrivals in the same period in 2017. In the first quarter of 2018 a total of 1,956 migrants and asylum seekers arrived in Europe using different land and sea routes, in comparison to 34,531 registered in the first quarter of 2017. As previously reported, the decrease is mainly due to the drop in arrivals in Italy.
