What is ACT?

Launched at the 2014 U.S. African Leaders Summit, the Accelerating Children’s HIV/AIDS Treatment (ACT) Initiative is a two-year effort to double the number of children receiving life-saving antiretroviral treatment (ART) in nine high-priority countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The $200 million initiative represents a joint investment by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF).

The President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI)

Malaria prevention and control is a major U.S. foreign assistance objective, and PMI’s strategy fully aligns with the U.S. Government’s vision of ending preventable child and maternal deaths and ending extreme poverty. Under the PMI Strategy for 2015–2020, the U.S.
Government’s goal is to work with PMI-supported countries and partners to further reduce malaria deaths and substantially decrease malaria morbidity, toward the long-term goal of elimination.

PEPFAR Gender Strategy: Addressing gender norms and inequities is essential to reducing HIV risk and increasing access to HIV prevention, care and treatment services for women and men. In low and middle-income countries worldwide, HIV is the leading cause of death and disease in women in reproductive age. In sub-Saharan Africa, 60% of those living with HIV are women and in some of these countries, prevalence among young women aged 15-24 years is on average about three times higher than among men of the same age.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 16, 2005 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced that it will donate 27,000 metric tons of wheat to the South-East Consortium for International Development (SECID), a private voluntary organization, for use in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

SECID will sell the wheat in the DRC and use the proceeds to help farmers improve production and marketing of various agricultural commodities, such as cassava, maize, peanuts, soybeans and bananas.
