BURKINA FASO

DENGUE FEVER OUTBREAK DECLARED

The Ministry of Health on 28 September declared a dengue fever outbreak with 1,055 suspected cases and four deaths registered since the start of the year. Cases have been on the rise since late July with the Central region having the highest number of infections. Surveillance has been bolstered since last year’s epidemic in which 2,526 suspected cases and 20 deaths were registered. Rapid diagnostic tests have been provided at health facilities since January 2017.

Given the prolonged crisis in Mali, UNHCR is reorienting its programs towards the transition from traditional assistance to livelihood activities and cash based interventions.

Following several security incidents since 2016, refugees are more and more prone to stigmatisation from the host community.

26 000 PERSONNES AFFECTÉES PAR LES INONDATIONS

Depuis juin, des pluies torrentielles et des inondations ont affecté plus de 26 000 personnes au Burkina Faso, selon les autorités nationales. Au moins 12 personnes ont été tuées et 35 grièvement blessées. Les pluies ont endommagé des milliers de maisons, laissant près de 10 000 sans-abri. Les partenaires humanitaires consolident l'information sur les besoins et la réponse actuelle aux victimes des inondations.

26,000 AFFECTED BY FLOODS

Since June, torrential rainstorms and flooding have affected over 26,000 people in Burkina Faso, according to the national authorities. At least 12 people have been killed and 35 critically injured. The rains have damaged thousands of homes, leaving almost 10,000 homeless. Humanitarian partners are consolidating information on the needs and current response to flood victims.

MICHEL KAFANDO CHOSEN AS INTERIM PRESIDENT
On 18 November, Michel Kafando, was sworn in as Burkina Faso’s interim President. In compliance to the Charter of the Transition signed on 16 November, Mr. Kafando, a former Foreign Minister and diplomat has been chosen to oversee a one-year transition back to civilian rule in Burkina Faso.

Le Ministère des Affaires Etrangères et de la Coopération Régionale, à travers sa structure rattachée, la Commission Nationale pour les Réfugiés (CONAREF) et la Représentation du Haut-Commissariat pour les Réfugiés au Burkina Faso, (HCR) ont procédé du 19 août 2013 au 20 février 2014, à l’enrôlement biométrique des réfugiés vivant sur le territoire burkinabè. L’enrôlement biométrique a permis d’atteindre les objectifs suivants :

  • Avoir des chiffres fiables et actualisés ;

  • Faciliter l’accès des réfugiés à l’assistance et à assurer leur protection
