Nobel Peace Prize brings global attention to epidemic of sexual violence in the DRC
NEW YORK, 24th September, 2018 (WAM) -- The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, to support the humanitarian response plan in Yemen, Myanmar and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in addition to support ICRC’s budget, totaling AED40.4 million (US$11 million).
The following trends analysis is put together on the basis of available secondary data at the time of publication. It is representative of the available information and therefore indicative of mixed migratory trends in East Africa & Yemen.

Cholera situation in Eastern Mediterranean Region 2017
Cholera remains a threat to public health and claims lives in the countries of Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). During 2017, a total of 1,108,584 suspected cases of cholera including 3,273 related deaths (case fatality rate—CFR: 0.30%) were reported to WHO by seven Member States in the EMR.
'Norway's humanitarian budget has never been bigger than it is now, but the needs created by the world's humanitarian crises are continuing to grow. The Government has therefore proposed increasing the humanitarian budget by NOK 116 million. The additional funds will be channelled primarily to the crises in Yemen and the Democratic Republic of Congo,' said Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide.

1,000 Days of War and Atrocities in Yemen
Today, 20 December, marks 1,000 days since a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates responded to a request by the government of Yemen for regional military intervention. The UN estimates that at least 5,500 civilians have been killed since March 2015, although accurate reporting is impossible and the actual death toll is considered to be much higher.

At the Debate, the Secretary-General (SG) will present his annual report on CAC (A/72/361–S/2017/821) pursuant to SCR 2225 (2015), covering the period from January 1 to December 31, 2016.
Implementation of Event Based Surveillance in Jordan
Jordan is conducting a training workshop for the launch of event based surveillance (EBS) for acute respiratory infections. The workshop to be conducted in Amman, Jordan, from 24 to 27 July 2017 will target public health officers responsible for surveillance and response at governorate level and health professionals from all secondary and tertiary level hospitals in the country.

Resurgence of Cholera Outbreak in Yemen
The current cholera outbreak in Yemen, started in October 2016, showed a sign of decline in the first three months of the year. An upsurge of cases and deaths were recorded from 27 April 2017. As of 28 May 2017, a cumulative total of 88,849 suspected cholera cases including 657 associated deaths (CFR: 0.73%) were recorded from 261 districts in 19 governorates across the country since the beginning of the outbreak in 2016
