CAMEROON

ARMED RAIDERS KILL SIX CIVILIANS

Armed attackers killed six civilians in two separate raids on villages in Cameroon’s Far North Region on 27 and 30 September. The villages are in Kolofata locality which suffers near-daily armed attacks, claiming lives and uprooting civilians. Despite the raids, displaced families keep returning home for safety near military bases and to their farms to grow food. Kolofata is home to 12,000 displaced people and another 14,500 who have returned from displacement.

POPULATION MOBILITY OVERVIEW

Three major mobility patterns shaped West and Central African flows in the last three months. The first is a pattern of forced internal displacement flows, mainly as a result of the Lake Chad Basin Crisis. The Crisis directly affecting nearly 4 million persons with more than 2.27 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) and 1.49 million returns in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

AGADEZ, Niger - Their lives have been reduced to waiting in the heat. Many must sleep on the ground. But at least now they are safe.

They are refugees, asylum seekers and persons of concern for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. They wait now here, in Agadez, Niger. Most are Sudanese, and many have appalling stories to tell.

En 2017, la mission de l’OIM Niger a recueilli les témoignages de près de 9 100 migrants assistés dans quatre localités au Niger (Agadez, Arlit, Dirkou et Niamey), ainsi qu’à Diffa et Zinder. Ces migrants ont souvent échoué dans leur parcours migratoire, ont vécu des situations difficiles, et n’ont souvent plus les moyens financiers pour rentrer chez eux. La majorité des migrants arrivant dans les centres de transit de l’OIM Niger ont séjourné en Algérie, en Libye, ou dans d’autres pays voisins du Niger.

MONKEYPOX EPIDEMIC DECLARED

The Ministry of Public Health on 17 March declared an outbreak of Monkeypox. Eight cases have been reported, all from Ippy in the central Ouaka prefecture. Three confirmed cases are quarantined at the main hospital in the eastern Bria town. Humanitarian actors in Ippy are supporting the local health centre to expand isolation capacity and medicine stocks. Monkeypox previously erupted in September 2016 in Basse-Kotto prefecture and was declared over four months later.

DES HOMMES ARMÉS DE LA LRA ENLÈVENT DES VILLAGEOIS

Le 8 mars, des hommes armés soupçonnés d’appartenir à la LRA ont pillé un village dans la province orientale de la Haute-Kotto, et ont enlevé six hommes pour transporter les biens volés. Les assaillants auraient été accompagnés de 19 femmes et enfants enlevés. Par ailleurs, les autorités de la province sud-est du Haut-Mbomou ont annoncé l'arrestation du troisième plus haut gradé de la LRA qui doit être transféré à la capitale Bangui.

Suspected LRA gunmen on 8 March looted a village in the eastern Haute-Kotto province, and kidnapped six men to transport the stolen goods. The attackers are reported to have had 19 kidnapped women and children with them. Separately, authorities in the southeastern Haut-Mbomou province announced the arrest of LRA’s third highest-ranking leader who is to be transferred to the capital Bangui
