A global fund that provides rapid humanitarian aid for overlooked crises, is marking the second anniversary of the World Humanitarian Summit by sharing the impact of its 4th year, through its new annual report released today.

The Start Fund fills a critical gap in humanitarian financing. It pools funding from donors for immediate release for underfunded small to medium scale crises, spikes in chronic humanitarian crises, and to act in anticipation of impending crises.

Marylène Seguy | Goma, le 8 février 2018 – La Mission de l’ONU pour la stabilisation en RDC (MONUSCO) a remis jeudi 8 février 18 panneaux solaires et 24 batteries à l’Observatoire volcanologique de Goma. Selon Daniel Ruiz, chef de bureau de la MONUSCO à Goma, ce don permettra notamment d’augmenter le niveau de sécurité de la population via les alertes précoces quant à l’activité sismique dans cette zone. Coût du projet : 51.346 dollars américains, dont la quasi-totalité financée par la MONUSCO.

Goma, July 3rd, 2017 - The North Kivu Civil Protection Service has organized a simulation exercise involving about 2, 000 families and constituting over 11, 000 persons on Monday 03 of July in Goma to evacuate the population in the event of a volcanic eruption of the two volcanoes of Nyiragongo and Nyamuligira .

This simulation exercise is part of the assessment of the contingency plan developed and adopted by the government at the national level. It was executed with the support of MONUSCO, the World Bank, OCHA, WFP and government.

Le Cluster Logistique en RDC a participé, du 02 au 03 mars 2017 à Goma, à l’Atelier multisectoriel sur la validation du plan d’organisation de secours en cas d’éruption du volcan Nyiragongo à Goma. Ce plan est piloté par le Gouvernement provincial du Nord Kivu. Au cours de cet atelier, le Cluster Logistique, parmi d’autres clusters (CCCM, Secal, Education, AME Abris, Wash et Protection), a présenté sa contribution dans ce plan de réponse.

Goma, République Démocratique du Congo, 28 juillet 2015

En 2002, une éruption du volcan Nyiragongo avait détruit 13% de la ville de Goma et du territoire de Nyiragongo, à l’Est de la RDC.

Goma se trouve non loin de la région volcanique des Virunga, localisée entre le lac Kivu et les volcans Nyiragongo et Nyamulagira qui, lui, entre en éruption presque chaque année.

Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, 28th July 2015 – In 2002, an eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano destroyed 13% of the town of Goma and the Nyiragongo territory, to the East of the DRC.

Goma is not far from the Virunga volcanic region, located between Lake Kivu and the volcanoes Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira, the latter of which erupts nearly every year.

The past three decades have witnessed a growing awareness of disability issues and the emergence and spread of disabled people’s organisations.

The growing awareness must be accompanied by practical measures to identify and reduce the barriers faced by persons with disabilities in an emergency situation.

Le conseil d’administration de la Banque mondiale (BM) a octroyé à la RDC un don de 52 millions de dollars américains pour à améliorer la sureté, la sécurité et le fonctionnement de l’aéroport de Goma (Nord-Kivu). Les administrateurs du groupe de la Banque mondiale ont pris cette décision au cours de leur réunion du lundi 16 mars. Ces fonds devront server à remettre ce site à niveau après le désastre de l’éruption du volcan Nyiragongo en 2002.

Cameroon: 50,000 people are estimated displaced due to the recent increase in Boko Haram (BH) attacks in the northern regions. In the past week, an attack on a military base in Kolofata resulted in 143 BH killed, subsequently, BH kidnapped 80 people from one village – with three killed and 24 later released. The conflict has escalated regionally, with Chad pledging military support in Cameroon’s fight against Boko Haram.
