La Belgique va contribuer, dans les deux années à venir, à raison de 4,4 millions d’euros (5 millions de dollars US) à la lutte contre les maladies tropicales négligées au travers du Projet spécial élargi pour l'Élimination des Maladies tropicales négligées (ESPEN pour Extended Special Project for Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases). Ce projet de l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé vise à maîtriser voire éliminer cinq maladies tropicales. La fondation Bill & Melinda Gates doublera la mise belge.

- 391 refugees (114 families) were submitted for resettlement, of which 373 were from DRC, 18 from BDI, SOM and Sudan, and none from South Sudan.
- 328 refugees (85 families) departed to the USA (228), Norway (75) and Sweden (25).
- UNHCR facilitates 7 US missions (RSC pre-screening, CIS and Cultural orientation).
- Resettlement focal point staff have been trained on proGres V4 and an action plan to transition from proGres V3 to V4 has been established.

Belgium will raise its budget for humanitarian aid for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to 25 million euros this year. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Development Cooperation has announced this in Geneva, where a humanitarian donor conference for the DRC is taking place. The humanitarian crisis in the DRC has worsened considerably during the last 2 years.

L’an dernier, la Belgique a mobilisé un montant de 17 millions d’euros en faveur de l’aide humanitaire à la RDC. Le ministre De Croo va faire passer ce montant à 25 millions d’euros cette année. Notre pays entend ainsi donner un signal à la communauté internationale et à nouveau témoigner sa solidarité à la population congolaise. La Belgique invite aussi les autres pays à accroître leur efforts.

During 2017, almost 38,900 refugees were submitted by UNHCR for resettlement1 to 25 countries in Europe,2 36% more than during 2016 and over three times greater than the average rate of 12,400 submissions per year during the last decade.
Between 2007 and 2016, Europe’s proportion of resettlement sub-missions globally has increased from approximately 9% to more than 18%, and in 2017 reached 52%. This is primarily due to a significant decrease globally in new submissions for resettlement, most notably to the United States of America.

The Belgian government takes note of the announcement by the Congolese authorities of measures concerning the Belgian development agency Enabel as well as the Schengen house in Kinshasa.

Belgium regrets this announcement which threatens to prevent the Enabel agency to operate directly and significantly in favour of the Congolese population, mostly in the sectors of agriculture, public health and education. This decision would also affect hundreds of the agency’s Congolese staff.

This fund is managed by the Start Network, an international network of humanitarian NGO’s. The Start Fund’s objective is to reduce the funding gap within the current humanitarian system for small to medium-sized humanitarian crises.

Of all explosive weapons used, the IED is the most widespread, the most harmful and the most pernicious. Based on the belief that to overcome a problem, we must first understand it, this monitor is a small step in seeking to address the terrible realities of today.
It is a monitor that is, also, a response to a call to action.
