Unos 395.072 bebés nacerán en todo el mundo el día de Año Nuevo, según las estimaciones de UNICEF. De todos ellos, una cuarta parte nacerán en el sudeste asiático.

1. Preamble

This lessons-learned paper is an initiative of the Global WASH Cluster Technical Learning Project, led by ACF1 -UK. The Project has identified water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) response to floods as a priority for technical learning in the sector. Flood emergencies are predicted to increase significantly because of climate change. A number of agencies have experience in responding to rural floods and this provides an opportunity to capture and harness good practices and lessons learned to inform future WASH responses.

The report by WHO shows that after more than a decade of unprecedented decline of malaria, reductions have stalled and, in some countries, the disease is on the rise.

Pneumonia is on course to kill nearly 11 million children by 2030, new analysis conducted by Johns Hopkins University and Save the Children reveals.

The in-depth modelling, released on World Pneumonia Day, also shows that more than four million of these deaths – more than a third – could be easily averted with concerted action to improve rates of vaccination, treatment and nutrition.

Without action, the aid organisation’s forecasts show Nigeria, India, Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are likely to bear the highest burden of deaths.
