L’entité politique du Kamerun est née du protectorat signé en juillet 1884 entre le gouvernement allemand et les chefs traditionnels douala. Après la première guerre mondiale, le Cameroun a été placé sous protectorat franco-britannique. Le Southern Cameroon sous tutelle britannique, correspondant aujourd’hui aux régions du NordOuest et du Sud-Ouest, a accédé aux indépendances le 1er octobre 1961. Suite aux accords de Foumban négociés en juillet 1961, l’état fédéral du Cameroun naît en octobre 1961.

On 7 October, presidential elections in Cameroon were accompanied by electoral related violence in the anglophone regions of Northwest and Southwest. The new violence is likely to have displaced more people, which would add to the estimated number of 246,000 that were displaced as of August 2018 since the beginning of the crisis in 2017. The newly displaced are likely to be in need of food, shelter, health and wash assistance.

Since 15 September 2018, unprecedented mass population movement has been recorded from the North West (NW) and South West (SW) regions of Cameroon, following a notice circulated by armed groups operating in these regions on their intention to block any entry or exit into or from the said regions of Cameroon, in a bid to thwart any campaign plans for the upcoming presidential elections set to hold on 7 October 2018.
