■ Asylum seekers from the Central African Republic continued to arrive in Bas-Uele and Nord Ubangi provinces. National Commission for Refugees (CNR) and UNHCR have data on 64,000 new asylum seekers who arrived between mid-May and August, while local authorities reported tens of thousands more arrivals in areas of difficult access. This new influx started mid-May and was triggered by violence, tensions and fear about imminent attacks in border areas.

DOSSEYE, Chad, Nov 10 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Leila Ousmane and her 10-year-old daughter walk in disbelief atop the crumbling bricks that, until a few days earlier, formed the walls of their family home.

Heavy rains and floods in late September ravaged the Dosseye refugee camp where they live, toppling their house of mud bricks and wooden stumps into rubble.

Kaga Bandoro – This week IOM, the UN Migration Agency, completed the relocation of 698 internally displaced households from the impromptu camp that formed around MINUSCA’s (Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic) base following the 2016 attacks in Kaga Bandoro, Central African Republic (CAR). Over 20,000 people settled around the base after ex-Séléka members attacked the Evêché IDP camp, the Prefect’s office and the MINUSCA camp on 12 October 2016.

« Les affrontements entre les groupes armés se propagent rapidement en particulier dans les région ouest et sud-est du pays », a dit jeudi la Représentante spéciale adjointe du Secrétaire général en RCA, Najat Rochdi, lors d'une conférence de presse au siège de l'ONU à New York.

DANAMAJA, Chad, Nov 9 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Wearing a pastel-coloured dress embroidered with a tatty trim and speaking almost in a whisper, 17-year-old Chancelle looks like she should be in school.

But, since the age of 15, she has instead been going into isolated huts or simply to the fields to sell sex for money.

"Each week, I would meet with three or four men," the teenager, who declined to give her real name, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

9 November 2017 – One out of every four people in Central African Republic (CAR) is either displaced or living as a refugee in another country, a senior United Nations official said Thursday, urging the international community to provide more resources for a humanitarian plan that up to now is only partially funded.

“The aid community has very limited capacities and is struggling to provide basic services” outside of the main two cities, Najat Rochdi, told journalists in New York, saying the situation hinges on “life and death.”

As of 31 October, United Nations-coordinated appeals and refugee response plans within the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) require US$24.1 billion to meet the humanitarian needs of 105.1 million particularly vulnerable people of an estimated 145 million crisis-affected people in 39 countries. The appeals are funded at $11.8 billion, leaving a shortfall of $12.3 billion. This is $1.5 billion less than the gap reported at the end of September 2017.
