NEW YORK, Sep 27 2018 (WAM) - Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, today confirmed that the UAE is proceeding with grants totalling US$34.5 million (AED126.7 million) to fund renewable energy projects in the Caribbean that are built to withstand Category-5 hurricanes and located for enhanced resilience. This amount builds on $15 million of projects announced last year as part of the UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy under Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation.

Un terremoto de magnitud 7,6 poderoso y poco profundo golpeó las aguas de la costa de Honduras la noche del martes, lo que provocó amenazas de tsunami y advertencias para las costas cercanas del Caribe, que luego fueron levantadas.

No hubo informes inmediatos de daños o lesiones.

De acuerdo con el Servicio Geológico de Estados Unidos (USGS, por sus siglas en inglés), el terremoto tuvo epicentro en el mar frente a una zona poco poblada a 202 kilómetros al norte-noroeste de Barra Pataca y a 10 kilómetros de profundidad.

La recién formada tormenta tropical Nate dejó el jueves al menos 15 muertos en Nicaragua, ocho en Costa Rica, otros dos en Honduras y uno en El Salvador mientras se mueve en una trayectoria que podría llevarla el fin de semana a la costa estadounidense en el Golfo de México, informaron las autoridades.

El Centro Nacional de Huracanes de Estados Unidos indicó que la tormenta podría generar inundaciones en Honduras, donde se prevé que arroje entre 380 y 500 milímetros (entre 15 a 20 pulgadas) de lluvia, e incluso más en algunas zonas.

La tormenta tropical Franklin se formó el domingo en el noroeste del Caribe y a medida que daba muestras de organizarse mejor el gobierno de México emitió un aviso de huracán efectivo para la costa mexicana, desde Chetumal hasta Punta Allen.

El Centro Nacional de Huracanes en Miami reportó el lunes que Franklin se localiza frente a las costas de Honduras, a unos 425 kms al este de Belice y 460 de Chetumal, y cuenta con vientos máximos sostenidos de 75 kilómetros por hora (40 mph). El meteoro se mueve con dirección oeste-noroeste a 21 kilómetros por hora (13 mph).

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, August 22, 2016 – On August 18, CCRIF SPC (formerly the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility) made a payout of US$261,073 to the Government of Belize under its excess rainfall insurance policy, as a result of heavy rains that affected the country on August 4 & 5 during Hurricane Earl. CCRIF’s prompt payment to the Government demonstrated its commitment to provide policy payouts within two weeks after a qualifying hazard event.
