Sequía. Enfermedades. Terremotos. Huracanes. Más de 10,6 millones de personas en América Latina y el Caribe fueron afectadas por estos desastres en 2016.
Cada emergencia presentó sus propios desafíos, se tratara de los medios de vida afectados, la seguridad de las familias forzadas a huir de la violencia, el creciente riesgo de enfermedades transmitidas por vectores o la magnitud de grandes desastres como el terremoto en Ecuador (abril 2016) y el Huracán Matthew en el Caribe (octubre de 2016).
Drought. Disease. Earthquakes. Hurricanes. More than 10.6 million people across Latin America and the Caribbean were affected by these disasters in 2016.
Each emergency presented its own set of challenges, whether it was addressing affected livelihoods, the safety of families forced to flee from violence, the growing risk of vector-borne diseases or the sheer scale of major disasters such as the earthquake in Ecuador (April 2016) and Hurricane Matthew in the Caribbean (October 2016).

En América Central, la violencia perpetrada por grupos criminales o maras es una de las principales causas que llevan a las personas a buscar protección.
Desde finales de 2015, la sequía registrada en Bolivia se ha empalmado a la época seca (mayo-octubre) y se ha extendido al oriente y sur del país, afectando a cerca de 740,000 personas.

8.2 million people affected by disasters in Latin America and the Caribbean from January to August 2016.
In the Northern Triangle of Central America (NTCA), ongoing and widespread violence perpetrated by criminal groups or gangs is one of the main causes that people seek protection.
Since late 2015, the drought in Bolivia has continued through the dry season (May to October) and spread to the east and south of the country, affecting more than 740,000 people.

PERU: On 14 August, a 5.4 earthquake shook department of Arequipa, killing four people.Some 1,564 families are affected, 1,074 houses are inhabitable and 383 houses have collapsed. National and regional authorities are assisting affected people. The Government declared a 60-day state of emergency for seven districts in the province Arequipean province of Caylloma.

PERÚ: Un sismo de magnitud 5.4 ocurrió la noche del 14 de agosto en el departamento de Arequipa. El sismo ha dejado 4 muertos. Hay unas 1,564 familias damnificadas, 1,074 viviendas inhabitables y 383 colapsadas. Las autoridades nacionales y regionales realizan entrega de ayuda humanitaria a los afectados. El Poder Ejecutivo realizó una declaratoria de emergencia por 60 días en siete distritos en la provincia arequipeña de Caylloma.

The Federal Government has declared a state of emergency in 3 municipalities (Huauchinango, Tlaoala and Xicotepec) and Emergency Funding (FONDEN) is activated.

HURRICANE EARL BELIZE
Earl touched ground as a Category 1 hurricane on Thursday, 04 August.
Authorities distributed packages with food and water to the people affected, and also opened emergency shelters. Some 2,500 people were located in 94 emergency shelters, 164 are still sheltered. Earl affected 1,046 people in the departments of Quiché and Petén. 162 houses were reported with damages, and classes were suspended in the affected departments.

Earl tocó tierra como huracán categoría 1 (jueves 4 de agosto). Las autoridades distribuyeron paquetes de alimentos y agua entre los afectados. Unas 2,500 personas se refugiaron en 94 albergues temporales de emergencia, de estos 164 continúan en albergues.
GUATEMALA
Earl afectó a 1,046 personas en los departamentos de Quiché y Petén. Se reportaron 162 viviendas con daños, además de la suspensión de clases en los departamentos afectados.
MÉXICO

La Evaluacion y Coordinacion ante Desastres de las Naciones Unidas (UNDAC, para su siglas en ingles) es parte del sistema internacional de respuesta a emergencias repentinas.
UNDAC fue creado en 1993. Es diseñado para apoyar a las Naciones Unidas y los gobiernos de paises afectados por desastres durante la primer fase de una emergencia repentina. Ademas, UNDAC apoya en la coordinación de la llegada de socorro internacional al nivel nacional y/o al sitio de la emergencia.

What is UNDAC?
The United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) is part of the international emergency response system for sudden-onset emergencies.
UNDAC was created in 1993. It is designed to help the United Nations and governments of disaster-affected countries during the first phase of a sudden-onset emergency. UNDAC also assists in the coordination of incoming international relief at national level and/or at the site of the emergency.
