PERU: On 14 August, a 5.4 earthquake shook department of Arequipa, killing four people.Some 1,564 families are affected, 1,074 houses are inhabitable and 383 houses have collapsed. National and regional authorities are assisting affected people. The Government declared a 60-day state of emergency for seven districts in the province Arequipean province of Caylloma.

Hay unas 1,564 familias damnificadas, 1,074 viviendas inhabitables y 383 colapsadas. Las autoridades nacionales y regionales realizan entrega de ayuda humanitaria a los afectados. El Poder Ejecutivo realizó una declaratoria de emergencia por 60 días en siete distritos en la provincia arequipeña de Caylloma.

Delegations from Member States that have been affected by natural disasters that recently overwhelmed the region briefed the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) today on the soaring number of casualties, massive material damages and the recovery efforts currently underway in those countries.

Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) is providing emergency assistance to people in Peru after the country was rocked by a violent earthquake on Wednesday August 15.
A deadly 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Peru causing extensive damage throughout the Ica Province, located along the southern coast. The quake killed more than 540 people and at least 1,500 people were injured.
Among the dead are 150 people who were killed when the roof of San Clemente Roman Catholic Church collapsed during a funeral service in the city of Pisco.
