This report, for the period 1 June – 30 November 2012, is the first semiannual report, covering the first six months in the 2012/2013 fiscal and policy year for CCRIF. It is designed to provide an update on progress during this period towards achievement of CCRIF’s Strategic Objectives (see Figure 1) as defined in the CCRIF Strategic Plan 2012/2013 – 2014/2015. In providing this progress update, this report also illustrates how the Facility upholds its customer values.

Strengthening relationships with partners and stakeholders is progressing well for 2012 and has allowed the Belize Red Cross Society to advance in the areas of disaster risk reduction and preparedness, health, youth and volunteer management. Disaster management support in communities is very strong. Working with private and public sectors within the urban setting has started in the second half of 2011 and continues to strengthen in 2012, with increased local participation.

GENEVA, 15 June 2012 - As the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season kicks off, all 16 member governments of the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) have committed for the sixth year in a row to renew their hurricane and earthquake insurance for 2012-2013 and earned themselves a 25% premium rebate.
8 June, 2012 -- Bridgetown, Barbados, (CDEMA) - The member states of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) now have a model flood risk reduction system which can contribute to protecting the lives and property of people at the community level. The system has been developed under the Caribbean Disaster Management Project Phase 2 (CADM2).
In Saint Lucia CADM II was implemented with the Gros Islet Disaster Committee in Corinth.

Every year, World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. The topic of World Health Day in 2012 is Ageing and Health with the theme: Good health adds life to years. The issue gains more importance as within the next five years, the number of adults aged 65 and over will outnumber children under the age of 5.

Bridgetown, Barbados, February 3, 2012 (CDEMA) ‐ The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with the national disaster offices of Belize, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Lucia, has organised a series of capacity building workshops to address disaster risk reduction related to the safety of schools and to the agriculture sector.
The workshops are supported under the CARICOM/Brazil/FAO Cooperation Programme on disaster risk reduction and the first of these was held in Belize during the week of January 24 to 27, 2012.
