With 26 tropical storms and 14 hurricanes, the 2005 hurricane season has been rated one of the most active and destructive in history.

Forecasts made at the beginning of the year by experts at the United States National Hurricane Center (NOAA) predicted the formation of at least 12 cyclone systems, five of these reaching categories 3 to 5 in Saffir-Simpson scale.

Belmopan - 18 November, 2005 - THE GOVERNMENT OF BELIZE HAS ISSUED A TROPICAL STORM WARNING FOR THE ENTIRE COAST OF BELIZE. THE GOVERNMENT OF HONDURAS HAS ALSO ISSUED A TROPICAL STORM WARNING FOR THE BAY ISLANDS OF HONDURAS. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE WARNING AREA WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

On Thursday evening the Storting allocated an additional NOK 300 million for relief efforts in Pakistan, Central America and Africa.

International Development Minister Erik Solheim is concerned that the tragic situation in the wake of the earthquake in Pakistan may deteriorate into one of the greatest humanitarian crises we have faced.

- Winter is approaching. The relief workers are fighting against the clock. We all have an obligation to do whatever we can to save lives, said Mr Solheim.

Hurricane Wilma is moving away from Belize.

The government of Belize has declared the all clear for the country of Belize.

The tropical storm warning for Belize has also been discontinued.

At 6:00 am the centre of Hurricane Wilma was located near latitude 20.1 degrees north and longitude 86.3 degrees west or about 179 miles northeast of Corozal town 185 miles north-northeast of San Pedro, Ambergris and 218 miles north-northeast of Belize city.

Wilma is moving toward the north-northwest at 6 miles per hour (mph).

MEXICO CITY, Oct 20, 2005 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Hurricane Wilma has killed at least 13 people in the Caribbean and forced evacuation of 50,000 from Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on Thursday before heading to Florida.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, said Wilma remained a Category 4 hurricane with powerful winds of 230 kph, and meteorologists forecast it would be gaining force in the coming hours.

If Wilma touches down on the Yucatan Peninsula, it is expected to bring heavy downpours to the beach resorts and western Cuba in the Gulf of Mexico, experts …
