On Monday 16 October 2017 the Council adopted the EU Annual Report on Human Rights And Democracy in the World in 2016.

2016 was a challenging year for human rights and democracy, with a shrinking space for civil society and complex humanitarian and political crises emerging. In this context, the European Union showed leadership and remained strongly committed to promote and protect human rights and democracy across the world.

Bridgetown, Barbados - El Gobierno de Japón y el Programa de Desarrollo de las Naciones Unidas (PNUD) lanzaron el día de hoy, con una inversión de 15 millones de dolares, la iniciativa Japón-Caribe Alianza por el Cambio Climático (J-CCCP, por sus siglas en inglés). La iniciativa está alineada al Acuerdo de París sobre el Cambio Climático, para mantener el calentamiento global por debajo de 2 grados Celsius e impulsar los esfuerzos para limitar el aumento de la temperatura aún más a 1,5 grados centígrados por encima de los niveles pre-industriales.

Countries in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region are highly vulnerable to a range of natural hazards, including droughts, earthquakes, forest fires, floods, hurricanes, and volcanic eruptions. Between FY 2006 and FY 2015, USAID provided nearly $777 million to assist disaster-affected populations in the LAC region, including nearly $509 million from USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) and approximately $268 million from USAID’s Office of Food for Peace (USAID/FFP).
