Le camp de transit de Cishemere en province de Cibitoke enregistre ces derniers jours un afflux massif de demandeurs d’asile Congolais. En effet, tout au long de la première semaine du mois d’octobre 2018, une centaine de Congolais ont été accueillis par la Croix-Rouge du Burundi qui gère le camp de transit de Cishemere au quotidien. Cette nouvelle situation porte à 706, l’effectif de demandeurs d’asile Congolais pour un camp de transit dont la capacité d’accueil ne dépasse que très légèrement ces effectifs.

• A total of 12,979 children (6,779 boys; 6,200 girls) accessed critical protection services, including temporary emergency shelter, psychosocial support, release from detention, family tracing and reunification, medical support, as well as access to education and reintegration opportunities.

• Since the beginning of the year, 37,786 children with severe acute malnutrition have been admitted and treated in 418 health facilities supported by UNICEF.

  1. Since January 2018, more than 75,000 people were affected by natural events: mostly floods, landslides and intense winds, due to the rainy season. The most affected areas are Ngozi and Rutana due to field destruction.

  2. The most urgent needs detected during the multi-sector evaluations were: emergency shelters and rental support, non-food item (NFI) kits, WASH and food.

  • 5,022 IDPs were relocated in Rumonge and Bujumbura Rural after the decommissioning of the four IDP sites.

  • 48,930 returnees from Tanzania under the VolRep received a NFI kit. Sector warehouse in Bujumbura consolidated for emergency response.

La décision prise par le Burundi de suspendre presque toutes les organisations non gouvernementales (ONG) œuvrant sur son territoire est une mesure extrêmement répressive qui va avoir de graves répercussions sur certaines des personnes les plus fragilisées du pays, a déclaré Amnesty International alors qu'était appliquée cette mesure de suspension annoncée la semaine dernière.

Burundi’s suspension of almost all international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in the country is a deeply repressive measure that will severely impact some of the most vulnerable people in the country, Amnesty International said as the suspension announced last week came into effect.

Burundi’s Minister of Interior today confirmed in a meeting with NGO representatives that only organizations running hospitals and schools would be exempt from the suspension.

On 1 August 2018, just one week after the declaration of the end of the Ebola outbreak in Equator province, the 10th Ebola epidemic of the DRC was declared in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, which are among the most populated provinces in the DRC that also share borders with Uganda and Rwanda. Latest numbers as of 29 September are as seen below:
