On Monday 16 October 2017 the Council adopted the EU Annual Report on Human Rights And Democracy in the World in 2016.

2016 was a challenging year for human rights and democracy, with a shrinking space for civil society and complex humanitarian and political crises emerging. In this context, the European Union showed leadership and remained strongly committed to promote and protect human rights and democracy across the world.

Elle s'est inscrite à la mobilisation de la population pour la prévention des risques de catastrophe à travers son approche "Ménage Modèle". C'est ainsi que les volontaires de la Croix-Rouge du Burundi se sont encore mobilisés pour contribuer aux activités de protection de l'environnement. C'était dans la semaine du 9 au 13 octobre 2017.

Background

On 31 August 2017 at the Tripartite Commission Meeting for the Voluntary Repatriation of Burundian Refugees in Tanzania, the Tripartite Commission (United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Burundi, and UNHCR) issued a joint communiqué and agreed to implement a work plan from 7 September to 31 December 2017, which entails the voluntary repatriation plan of Burundian refugees who wish to return to Burundi. The voluntary repatriation operation will take place in phases.

BACKGROUND

The camp was opened on 14th, January 2016, as an emergency response to receive 40,000 Burundian Refugees relocated from Nyarugusu camp to Nduta and Mtendeli. The camp suspended relocation for short time early Feb, 2016 due to land issue and water shortage then resumed on 8th April 2016 to stopped again in May to receive new arrivals.
