CATEGORY 5-rated Hurricane Maria is passing through a swathe of Caribbean islands, many of which had already been severely damaged by Hurricane Irma. The storm, with wind speeds of 160 mph (260 kmh) has made landfall in Dominica, and is threatening catastrophic damage and storm surges in its wake. At present, the track of the storm means that the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Turks and Caicos islands are most at risk.

A vessel will leave Port Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday, Sep. 15, to take food and emergency supplies to the British Virgin Islands.

On the way it will stop in Saint Lucia. Persons interested in sending supplies to their families and friends are asked to drop them off at the NEMO headquarters in Saint Lucia with proper labelling by 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sep. 14.

At 2.00 pm today, October 13, 2014 Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Montserrat and St Kitts/Nevis. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the British Virgin Islands and a Hurricane Watch for Anguilla.

At 2:00pm EDT today, Wed October 15, 2008, Hurricane Omar is strengthening over the north eastern Caribbean Sea and is expected to move through the Northern Leeward Islands late tonight and early Thursday. A Hurricane Warning was issued for Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands. A Hurricane Watch is now in effect for St. Kitts and Nevis. A Tropical Storm Warning has also been issued for Antigua and Barbuda and Montserrat.

A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected within the warning area within 24 hours.
