OVERVIEW

  • Many countries across the African continent face recurrent complex emergencies, frequent food insecurity, cyclical drought, and sudden-onset disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, and storms. In FY 2017, USAID/OFDA continued to respond to urgent needs resulting from disasters and support DRR programs that improve emergency preparedness and response capacity at local, national, and regional levels.

1,757 individuals, 424 households, were successfully relocated to Lóvua. They received tents and moved to allocated plots. 5,907 persons are currently living in Lóvua.

32 unaccompanied and separated children were relocated to Lóvua settlement. They will be progressively integrated into identified and trained foster-care families.

Eight of the 30 km main access road in Lóvua settlement has been opened and compacted.
Stone pitching / stone masonry will start next week which will enable the completion of new villages.

Chitembo - At least 100,115 people, among children and adults, were immunized from January to present date against several pathologies in the municipality of Chitembo, 150 kilometers south of the city of Cuito, Bié province.

The information was released Wednesday by the Chitembo municipal administrator, Daniel Mucanda, noting that the actions developed in the health units allowed vaccinating 5,805 pregnant women and women of childbearing age against tetanus, 76,766 against Yellow fever.

LOUVA, Angola – Since the outbreak of violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Kasai region earlier this year, nearly 35,000 refugees have poured into Angola’s Lunda Norte Province.

The population is highly vulnerable. Some 75 per cent of refugees from Kasai are women and children, according to UN reports. Many refugees have reported witnessing mass killings, rape and other human rights abuses during their flight from conflict.
