CONTEXTE

Durant les trois premières semaines d’octobre 2018, 381 881 congolais refoulés d’Angola, dont un nombre important d’enfants, sont arrivés aux différents points d’entrées dans les territoires de Luiza (Province Kasai Central), Kamonia (Province Kasai) et Kasongo-Lunda (Province Kwango). 80% des expulsés sont entrés par le point de passage de Kamako, les autres par ceux de Tembo (13%) et Luiza (7%). A ce jour, 35 000 personnes sont encore concentrées dans plusieurs sites et familles hôtes a Kamako, la zone la plus affectée.

October food distribution was completed in both the Lóvua settlement and Dundo with 22,688 refugees receiving food assistance.

The relocation plan for some 8,500 refugees living in the urban communities to the Lóvua settlement was finalised. A total number of 24 convoys will relocate refugees within 10-weeks.

UNHCR has received information from the DRC’s National Refugee Commission (CNR) about 122 individuals who appear to have been refouled to DRC in October due to Operação Transparência.

As of 30 September 2018, 810,227 Congolese refugees are being hosted in African countries. From 1 January to 30 September 2018 alone, some 139,395 Congolese fled to neighboring countries, with a particularly significant increase in refugee flows to Burundi, Uganda and Zambia.

UNHCR together with 43 humanitarian and development partners launched the revised Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRRP) on 17 July 2018 for $547 million to help respond to the needs of Congolese refugees in neighboring countries.

LUNDA NORTE PROVINCE, Angola – The March 2017 outbreak of violence in the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has displaced some 1.4 million people and forced over 35,000 others to flee to Lunda Norte Province, Angola. Roughly 75 per cent of refugees from Kasai in Angola are women and children.

  • At least 347,100 Congolese have returned from Angola since 1 October 2018, according to the 'Direction Générale de Migration' (DGM) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Caritas, which is monitoring the return on the ground, estimates an even higher number of returnees (half a million people). Angolan authorities had set an ultimatum to all persons with an irregular migrant status to leave the country within 15 days, classifying the operation as targeting illegal immigration and illegal exploitation of informal mines.
