Conor Lenihan TD, Minister of State for Irish Aid and Human Rights today announced a new 5 year multi-annual agreement with aid agency Christian Aid. He was joined at the announcement in St Patrick's Cathedral by the Head of Christian Aid Ireland, Margaret Boden and the Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Rev Dr Robert McCarthy.
Irish Aid funding to Christian Aid will increase from €7 million for the period 2003 to 2006 to €17 million over the 5 year period from 2007 to 2011. This agreement marks a new and important stage in the relationship between the two organisations.

The Minister of State for Development Cooperation and Human Rights, Tom Kitt T.D., announced today that he will visit Sierra Leone and Liberia from 8-11 March. He also announced a new round of Government humanitarian assistance for developing countries affected by natural and man-made disasters, including Sierra Leone and Liberia. Over €10 million has been approved for food, water and other basic relief in the following countries: Afghanistan; Angola; Congo; Eritrea; Iraq; Iran; North Korea; Liberia; Malawi; Sierra Leone; Somalia; Sudan and Zimbabwe.
The Minister of State for Development Cooperation and Human Rights, Mr. Tom Kitt T.D., announced a special package of humanitarian assistance at the global launch of the 2004 UN Consolidated Appeal held in Dublin today.
€6.7 million in assistance was announced in response to natural and man-made disasters in some of the world's poorest countries. The grant was pledged for immediate delivery.
