On 1 November, the United Nations Refugees Agency (UNHCR) strengthened its relationship with the local community in Lovua settlement by donating medicines and medical supplies at a ceremony in front of the Lovua health centre. Lovua hosts the Lovua settlement, where close to 15,000 Congolese refugees live.

  • At least 347,100 Congolese have returned from Angola since 1 October 2018, according to the 'Direction Générale de Migration' (DGM) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Caritas, which is monitoring the return on the ground, estimates an even higher number of returnees (half a million people). Angolan authorities had set an ultimatum to all persons with an irregular migrant status to leave the country within 15 days, classifying the operation as targeting illegal immigration and illegal exploitation of informal mines.

On 20 October, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) distributed 250 dignity kits to refugees in Lovua Settlement in Angola, where there are currently more than 14,000 Congolese refugees.
Dignity kits, commonly known as "Lodi" in Lovua, contain hygiene supplies such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, sanitary pads and underclothes and are for women and girls of reproductive age. The duration of the kits depends on the user and family of the user. To aid UNFPA with the distribution, there is a team of 23 refugee UNFPA mobilisers such as Mama Marie-Claire.

Malanje - At least 306 people have made homeless as result of devastating floods in the municipalities of Calandula and Luquembo, northern Malanje province, on 15 - 22 October, fire-fighters have said.

The floods destroyed 36 homes, a primary school and two churches, according to a weekly report.

On the other hand, the Firefighters have extinguished two small fires, caused by the short-circuit and gas leakage.

Malanje - At least 50 households have been displaced after their homes were destroyed by rain coupled with strong winds that recently hit the northern province of Malanje.

The rain affected 300 people in municipalities of Calandula and Quela, according to weekly report released by Firefighter Department.

In view of this situation, the victims are claiming for support from the local administrations and other authorities.

The firefighters also extinguished small fire that gutted four houses in the neighborhoods Vila Matilde and Catepa, in Malanje.

Pioneering technology will help eliminate landmines across Africa and Asia helping the world’s most vulnerable communities access safe land.

New UK aid funded technology, including radar detectors, will help trace ammunition in the equivalent of more than 16,000 football pitches. Remote controlled machines, such as the Mine Wolf, will also help clear cluster bombs more rapidly.

Manufactured in Newcastle, the eight-tonne Mine Wolf is a remote-controlled mine-clearing machine used in high risk areas. It can clear up to 12,000 square metres a day.
