PHILADELPHIA, PA - The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) today announced the start of a campaign to raise money for food and medicine for the two million refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) in the war-torn West African nation of Angola. The campaign, with its launching date coinciding with Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten season, runs through May 31 and begins with a project called "Kids to Kids".

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is sponsoring a delegation from the Inter-Ecclesiastic Committee for Peace in Angola (COIEPA) on a second visit to the UN. The purpose is to help bring peace to Angola, a country on the southwest coast of Africa that has been at war for more than a quarter century. The delegation arrives in the U.S. on Wednesday, October 25, 2000, for a 10-day visit.

TB and diarrhea are rife in the camps due to severe overcrowding, appalling sanitation and extreme destitution.
