Chitembo - At least 100,115 people, among children and adults, were immunized from January to present date against several pathologies in the municipality of Chitembo, 150 kilometers south of the city of Cuito, Bié province.

The information was released Wednesday by the Chitembo municipal administrator, Daniel Mucanda, noting that the actions developed in the health units allowed vaccinating 5,805 pregnant women and women of childbearing age against tetanus, 76,766 against Yellow fever.

Malanje - At least 199 citizens from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been repatriated to their country from November 2016 to November this year for illegal stay in northern Malanje province, said Tuesday the director of Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), Laureano Dias dos Santos.

The official who was speaking to ANGOP, said that the repatriations had taken place at the Tembo-Aluma border post in the municipality of Marimba and, compared to the previous period, there was a decrease of 110 cases, due to the strategies of SME to fight the illegal immigration.

LOUVA, Angola – Since the outbreak of violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Kasai region earlier this year, nearly 35,000 refugees have poured into Angola’s Lunda Norte Province.

The population is highly vulnerable. Some 75 per cent of refugees from Kasai are women and children, according to UN reports. Many refugees have reported witnessing mass killings, rape and other human rights abuses during their flight from conflict.

Uige - At least 275,745 cases of malaria were recorded from January to November this year in the northern Uige Province, as revealed by the provincial supervisor of the Fight against Malaria Programme, Manuel Messo.

The technician gave this information during the visit to Uige Province of he Health minister, Sílvia Lutucuta. On the occasion, Manuel Messo clarified that in the same period the authorities recorded over 700 deaths caused by malaria, most of whom were children.

• November 2015: The authorities at the National Migration Institute (INM for its acronym in Spanish) estimated that around 20,000 people – of mainly Cuban origin – passed through the region in 2014 and 2015.

• August 2016: The INM’s Regional Office and the Centre for Assistance to Irregular Migrants (CAMI for its acronym in Spanish) received requests for assistance from an average of 2,500 migrants per month.

Vienna, Geneva - The Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention's Sixteenth Meeting of the States Parties (16MSP) has concluded in Vienna, Austria, recording success in stockpile destruction with Belarus announcing it had destroyed over three million stockpiled landmines bringing to 159 the number of States that no longer have destruction obligations under the Convention. With Belarus' stockpile destruction, the States Parties have now destroyed more than 51 million landmines.
