On Monday 16 October 2017 the Council adopted the EU Annual Report on Human Rights And Democracy in the World in 2016.

2016 was a challenging year for human rights and democracy, with a shrinking space for civil society and complex humanitarian and political crises emerging. In this context, the European Union showed leadership and remained strongly committed to promote and protect human rights and democracy across the world.

Malanje - Four hundred and seventy thousand US dollars was donated by the Norwegian government to demining operations in the northern Malanje province during the year 2016, Angop learnt Tuesday.

The information was provided by the deputy national director of the Norwegian People's Aid (APN), during the visit paid to the region by the Norwegian Ambassador to Angola, Habvard Hoksnes, and the Swedish ambassador, Lennart Killander Larson, to an area under demining operation in the village of Camalanga, municipality of Malanje.

Luanda - The embassies of Japan and Norway signed on Monday in Luanda an agreement that establishes the granting of USD 203.384 to support the demining programme in Angola's northern Malanje province.

According to the Japanese ambassador to Angola, Kuniaki Ito, who was speaking at the end of the signing act, this value will benefit the mining in Malanje province and will be embodied for cleaning a total area of ​​117,000 square meters for one year.

1 . CONTEXT

Despite its abundant resources and a visible degree of political stabilisation, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is among the world's poorest countries, being ranked at 168 out of 182 countries in the 2010 Human Development Index. In the Global Needs Assessment (GNA) vulnerability index and Crisis index, it has one of the highest ratings; Gross Domestic Product per capita in 2008 was estimated at USD 300, a 57% drop since 2007.
