Luena - An area of more than nine million square meters of land was demined in Moxico province during this year, plus 7,7 million square meters compared to 2017.

The information was released Sunday in Angolan city of Luena by the official of the National Inter-sectoral Committee for Demining and Humanitarian Assistance (CNIDAH) of the province of Moxico, Chile Chicanha, noting that this year 576 antipersonnel mines were removed and destroyed, as well as 67 anti-tank, 1,473 projectiles and 4,063 ammunition.

99.3% of refugees in DRC live in rural areas, and 74% live outside refugee camps or settlements.

2,949 refugees voluntary returned from DRC to Rwanda since January 2018.

• WFP’s operational scale-up in six conflict-affected provinces is on track. Between January and November, WFP reached 5 million people, 90 percent of the 5.4 million targeted for food and nutrition assistance in 2018.

• The Ebola outbreak has possibly claimed more than 330 lives in North Kivu and Ituri provinces. WFP is providing food and nutrition assistance and supporting the overall response with logistics, aviation, and information and communications technology.

As of 30 November 2018, 800,330 Congolese refugees are being hosted in African countries. From 1 January to 30 November 2018 alone, some 154,287 Congolese fled to neighboring countries, with a particularly significant increase in refugee flows to Uganda, Burundi and Zambia.

UNHCR together with 43 humanitarian and development partners launched the revised Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRRP) on 17 July 2018 for $547 million to help respond to the needs of Congolese refugees in Africa.
